Why sell paper piecings on eBay?

eBay is a great way to make a steady part-time or full-time income from a hobby
that you love! Selling paper piecings has its ups and downs, but overall it is a
rewarding and lucrative venture.

Getting and Understanding An eBay Account

To get started selling paper piecings on eBay, you will need to set up an account. If
you already have an account, you many want to consider changing your user ID to
reflect your status as a Paper Piecer. Find something that can be easily abbreviated
for your titles so that you can create a name for yourself that is easy for potential
customers to find. You can also use your entire ID in your titles. Some examples are:

User ID is a*scrapfanatic and abbreviation in titles is A*
User ID is CherryRedSpyder and abbreviation is CHeRRYReD
User ID is Luvspaper and uses luvspaper in titles

If you don’t yet have an account and want some information on starting to sell, visit
http://pages.ebay.com/help/basics/n-selling.html

This will give you detailed step-by-step instructions to help you get started!

When you are ready to list, keep these things in mind:

Choose a Category
Paper Piecing = 11792 OR
Toys&Hobbies, Hobbies&Crafts, Arts&Crafts, Scrapbooking, PaperPiecing

Title
Make sure it contains the phrase “paper piecing” (without the quotation marks) since
many people find these items by searching for “paper piecing” in the titles. Also try
to include an abbreviation of your user ID to help create a recognizable name for
your paper piecings. If there is room, try to list any extras you have in your auction
such as shaker, beads, buttons, etc.

Description
Start your description by giving all of the basic information about the paper piecing
that you made. List the dimensions and a brief description of each part of the set.

Also let people know if you used pens and chalks to add detail to your sets. If any
part of your set is computer generated, it is a good idea to note this in the auction.

Let everyone know whether your background paper is included or not.

Make sure you let your potential customers know if you use all acid-free, lignin-free
products when making your sets. A lot of people also list information such as
“comes from a pet-free, smoke-free home.”

At the end of the description list all payment and shipping information.

You want to
make sure that customers know the following: what payment methods you accept/
prefer, your shipping rate, how the items will be packed, whether or not you offer
insurance and how much you charge, and your email address for any questions.

Minimum Bid
Set the price at the absolute minimum you are willing to accept for this paper
piecing. Most auctions start in the $3-10 range. Adjust your minimum bid price
according to time, materials used, and the detail of the piece.

Auction Duration
You have a choice of 3, 5, 7, and 10 day auctions. Most paper piecers use either 5
or 7 day auctions. It is a good idea to have your auction extend over Sunday
evenings because it is a very busy time.

Learning About Optional Photo Hosting Services for High Quality Photos
eBay allows you to host one photo per auction free of charge. This is a great service,
but unfortunately the photos are not very clear. To get the clearest photos possible,
find a photo hosting service. Some free and easy to use options are http://
www.photobucket.com and http://www.webphoto.com There are also low cost,
reliable options like
http://www.villagephoto.com It is a good idea to use a photo hosting service along
with the free eBay photo in case one of the services “goes down.” This way people
can still see some type of photo for the auction.

Studying The Paper Piecing Auction Market
To see which paper piecings are selling the best, go to http://www.eBay.com and
type “paper piecing” in the search box. When the search results page comes up,
click on “Highest Priced First.” This will allow you to browse through the best-selling
auctions. Take notes. Note which themes and styles are selling well and try to come
up with original designs that fit into those themes/styles. You can also click on
“Completed Items” to see what the end price was for recently listed auctions.

Copyright Issues
Did you know that each time you create an original paper piecing it automatically
has copyright protection? You do not need to register a creation to have it
protected.

It is a good idea to put a notice with your auctions when it is an original design. If
you are using a pattern from a Tole/Pattern book, you should not use a copyright
notice. A basic copyright notice looks like this:

Copyright 2002 Your Name Here

This also means that all of those other original paper piecings that are listed on
eBay are protected. It is okay to browse around and get ideas and inspiration, but
you should never make copies of paper piecing that you see.

How To Find Items To Sell On eBay

When it comes to eBay auctions, many people are unsure as to how to select items to sell - and where to find them. While figuring out which items sell best on eBay may be a little difficult, finding those items isn’t difficult at all! You just have to be creative in your search, and keep an open mind!

Start your search at your own home. Clean out the garage, the attic, and the closets. You will most likely be very surprised at the items that you will find.

Don’t make the mistake of throwing things out, thinking that they are useless.

What is useless to you may be very useful to someone else, and you should try to auction it off! Of course, items that are worn out to the point of not working are not useful to anyone - but if the item is old, and it still works, it can be auctioned off…in fact, it doesn’t even have to be old or valuable!

Offer to clean out the attics and garages of older people as well.

Older people tend to hang onto things for years and years, and as that time passes, those items become more valuable. Offer to buy items that you find in their attic or garage. Most people don’t realize the value of what they have, and you will probably pick up many high selling items very cheap. In fact, as a way of thanking you, the items may even be given to you at no charge!

Visit the yard sales and garage sales in your area.

People sell things for next to nothing at these sales. If it is in good shape, and you think you can sell it on eBay, buy it. Even if it turns out to be an eBay dud, you can always resell the item in your own yard sale to get your money back out of it. However, do some research before you start hitting the yard sales. Find out what items and brands are selling well on eBay.

Flea markets are also great for finding items to auction off at eBay.

Keep up with how much you pay for items at the flea markets, and when you post the items for auction at eBay, make sure that your reserve price is not less than what you originally paid for the items!

Go to storage auctions.

Most storage businesses auction off the contents of the storage units when people fail to pay their storage bills. This is a fabulous way to find items to auction off on eBay. Estate sales should also be attended to find high value antique items.

Another option is to use drop shippers for new items.

Setting up an account with a drop shipper is really quite simple. You can auction off brand new items using either the auction feature or the buy now feature at eBay. Just make sure that your reserve price for auctions is not less than what the item will cost you! Once your item is sold, the drop shipper will ship the item directly to your customer.

The most important thing about selling is that you need to make sure the items that you pick are in good shape and are saleable. This doesn’t mean that the item has to be in perfect condition - but if it is in less than perfect condition, you need to convey this information when you set up your auction.

Use your imagination, and keep your eyes open constantly for items that you can auction off on eBay. Again, do your research and find out which items and brands do well on eBay. Make a list, and carry it with you wherever you go!

In fact, you might not even have heard of eBay stores. Read on to find out what you’ve been missing.

eBay stores come at three levels: Basic for $15.95 per month, Featured for $49.95 per month or Anchor for $499.95 per month (yes, that is typed correctly: almost $500). The best place to start out is with Basic (you can even get a month’s free trial), but if you like what you find then you should upgrade to Featured quickly, simply because it has so many extra features. Note that you must have a feedback rating of at least 20 before you can get an eBay store.

But what is an eBay store? Basically, it lets you list a set of fixed price auctions together on one page for much longer than auctions usually last - and most sellers with eBay stores list the items at a slightly lower price. It’s like a list of your special offers. You can put your logo on the store and write a little about your business and policies, and your customers can search your store for anything they might want. Buyers can click through to your store using the door symbol next to your name.

A good way to look at it is that it’s a little like having your own e-commerce site outside eBay where you can list your items more long term - except it’s all done for you without you having to learn a new system. Items in eBay stores can be listed for 30, 60, 90 or 120 days, or you can list items permanently, paying monthly for each one.

So you Want an eBay Store Now?

You can visit eBay stores at http://stores.ebay.com. Go there now and click the ‘Open a Store’ button on the right of the screen to start signing up for the free trial. Then there are a few steps to go before your store can open for business.

Step 1: Pick a theme. You can have whatever design you want on your store, but to begin with pick something from eBay’s options that you think would be appropriate.

Step 2: Add your store’s name, description and logo. You can pick one of eBay’s pictures for the logo or upload a logo of your own if you have one. Don’t worry, you can always change this later.

Step 3: Choose your subscription level, and then click ‘Start My Subscription Now’. Your store is ready! Remember that you can customise it more at any time.

Listing items in your store is just like listing items on normal eBay using ‘Buy it Now’, except that the durations you can choose from for the store are much longer.

By now, you’ve probably spent enough time in eBay that you’re starting to get used to it - but then again, you also might have been a victim of fraud by now, or at least seen fraud happening to others. The next email will tell you how to fight eBay fraud.

In recent times the most visible public role for Peter Sutherland as chairman of BP PLC was to play host at the company’s yearly meeting. But after a run of oil spills, dangerous accidents and an energy-trading scandal at BP, the 60-year-old former rugby player has rushed into the scrum.

Last year, the Irish politician and banker forced Chief Executive John Browne to publicly identify his retirement date. After Lord Browne’s surprise decision last month to leave a year and a half earlier than previously planned, Mr. Sutherland must now buff BP’s image and manage the company’s first executive-suite transition in more than ten years.

Despite a persistent rise in oil prices its shares rose only 4.5 per cent in 2006, compared with a 36 per cent increase by Exxon Mobil Corp. and 15 per cent at Royal Dutch Shell PLC. Yesterday, the company reported fourth-quarter net income decreased by 22 per cent, in part this can be seen as indicative of lower natural-gas prices and lower production.

BP, meanwhile, faces U.S. criminal probes on three fronts — corrosion and oil spills in Alaska; a a refinery explosion in March 2005 which claimed the lives of 15 in Texas; as well as its energy-trading practices, with federal officials alleging BP traders surreptitiously influenced propane markets in 2004. BP refutes this claim and says it is cooperating with investigators on all three inquiries.

Mr. Sutherland’s higher profile also underpins a pattern that goes beyond BP: a transition in the boardroom dynamics at many of Europe’s biggest publicly traded companies. The criticism is often leveled that nonexecutive directors leave too much of the decision making to the executives. Now, many firms are moving to strengthen their boards with independent and strong directors.

Until the point at which Shell faced an accounting controversy in 2004, Shell’s British holding company had as its chairman a professor of geology. After the scandal, it got in Jorma Ollila, former chief executive officer of Nokia Corp as chairman. Unilever appointed an outside chairman last month to cap a restructuring at the Anglo-Dutch consumer-goods giant.

Mr. Sutherland’s mission at BP from the beginning has always been to establish a “robust” and independent board of directors he said in an interview recently. After stints as Ireland’s attorney general and Europe’s competition czar, Peter Sutherland in 1993 was instrumental in taking forward the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade in Geneva. There, he clinched the Uruguay Round, a pivotal trade agreement that set the stage for today’s World Trade Organization. For a man who has achieved so much it is difficult to forsee where he will find his next challenge.

The news is out: the PS3 games console is to be launched simultaneously around the globe in November 2006. But despite the grand global launch plan for the PS3 games console, there are doubts about its impact on the market. Even more, game analysts doubt if this global launch can help Sony regain lost market because of the earlier release of Microsoft’s Xbox 360. There are also many speculations why the new PS3’s launch keeps getting delayed.

Though Sony claims that the delays were due to digital rights management or DRM troubles, many analysts believe otherwise. Analysts pose more pressing issues as reasons for the PS3 games console’s launch delays. Eiichi Katayama, an analyst from Tokyo-based Nomura Securities’ Financial & Economic Research, suggests that the delays are probably caused by the slow progress of graphics chip development. Others offer reasons such as insufficiency of appropriate software titles. However, Sony is quick to dismiss these rumors and again reiterated the problem of DRM for their Blu-ray optical drive.

Blu-ray chips provide the new console with removable PS3 storage capacity that is five times bigger than the storage provided by DVDs of older consoles. Reports that PS3’s Blu-ray and DRM feature are almost finished make them unlikely causes of delays. According to Katayama, ROM mark and BD+ licensing have already started which make copy protection technology an implausible reason. Analysts believe that if DRM technology really cause the delay, the profit from PS3 games console would not suffer too much. However, if the reasons are as they believe — graphics chip development — the sales impact would probably be the worst in Sony’s history.

Sony contradicts the analysts’ measure of the situation and denies that the delays set the PS3 games console and the company at a disadvantage behind Microsoft and Xbox 360. Xbox 360 hit the stores last year and is still the top gaming console according to market trends. Jennie Kong, Sony’s European branch’s PR manager, defends the company’s strategy and claims that the company doesn’t allow itself to be dictated by their competitors’ moves. However, history supports the analysts’ views of the matter. It can be recalled that Microsoft and Sony had once faced the same situation, only this time, Sony has the advantage with the early release of their PS2 over the first Xbox. Current Analysis’ Steve Kovsky reminds that at that time, Microsoft suffered huge losses; clearly, Sony is slated for the same fate with PS3.

If Sony pushes for the November 2006 launch, it gives the Xbox 360 a full year sales advantage. However, the PS3 games franchise’s problem does not end with the launch’s delays. Rumors and news are circulating that even before its game console’s launch, Sony is planning to outlaw its resale. Different sources claim that Sony plans to sell the new consoles with their own individual licenses. This effectively prohibits second-hand sales in person or in online shops like Amazon.com and eBay.com. In essence, buyers are only purchasing the license to use the consoles; Sony still holds the proprietorship of the product. Game analysts comment that this is a logical move, if proven true. Sony would need all the push it can have to increase the sales of individual PS3 units.

The company refrains from making comments about the allegations no licensing. They maintain that all important announcements have been made during the E3 trade show and all other announcements would be made on the PS3 games console launch. This announcement, instead of putting a stop to the rumor mill only fuel the fire. But as it is, there is nothing gamers can do but just play their PS3 games and wait.

Despite what you may think, solitaire isn’t actually one specific game… it’s actually an entire category of different card games. Solitaire is actually any card game that you play on your own. The game called “Solitaire” that Microsoft ships with windows is actually a type of solitaire game, called Klondike.

There are hundreds of other solitaire games as well though. Another favourite is
Freecell, which Microsoft also ships. Other popular solitaire games, include Spider,
Pyramid, and Tri Peaks.

Each solitaire game has different rules, different ways to win, and different
styles.

Some solitaire games, like Klondike, don’t show you all the cards at the start. A
mixture of luck and skill is needed to win the game.

Other games, like Freecell, have all the cards visible, right from the very start of the
game. This means that the game is totally under the users control… there is no luck
involved at all, and if the user can think things through deeply enough, then they
are VERY likely to win.( Of the 32,000 deals available in Microsofts Freecell, only
one, deal number 11982, is unsolveable)

Some games are really hard to win, and require a lot of though. 4 Suit spider is one
of these hard games, and completing a game normally takes atleast half an hour of
solid thinking. Other games are either quite easy( like most deals in Freecell), or
don’t require much (if any) thought, like Clock.

Some games have distinctive and attractive card layouts. Pyramid has all the cards in
a big pyramid shape, and the player must remove cards from the bottom layers until
they can reach the top. La Belle Lucie starts the game with 18 fans, which all grow
and shrink as the game goes on. (La Belle Lucie looks particularly attractive on a
solitaire game supporting rotated cards)

Some solitaire games were played regularly by important historical figures. George
Washington and Napoleon were said to play Napoleon at Elba island, with claims
that it helped them to think in times of stress.

All solitaire games help you to think, and improve your concentration and memory-
and yet they are still relaxing and fun… A much better way to unwind than watching
TV!

No matter who you are, or what mood you’re in, there is a type of Solitaire game
that you will find fun to play right now. I encourage you to try out a solitaire game
package, and discover for yourself all the great fun available in the solitaire
universe.

A relatively new concept in the online world is “Virtual Real Estate Investing“. There are many variations on what this term means, encompassing everything from using the internet to aid in real estate investing efforts to participating in online games such as SecondLife.

To separate fact from fiction, I asked Bryan Ellis of BryanEllis.com for comments. He’s the man many consider to be the father of this new form of investing.

When I began using the term virtual real estate investing in the late 1990s, I did so because I saw clear parallels between the strategies used for profiting from physical real estate and those that would create income in the online world, said Ellis.

An example of the similar nature of “virtual” and “physical” real estate Bryan Ellis likes to point out is the methods of making a profit from domain names compared to physical real estate. He points out that control of a domain name or even a specific web page is much like controlling a real estate property ” those assets can be monetized in similar ways: By selling them for a profit, by leasing them, by offering advertising, etc.

The similarities really are obvious. After all, if you own a valuable piece of real estate, it’s “valuable” because other people are interested in that specific piece of property. Similarly, ownership of a desirable domain name is valuable for the same reasons. In either case, you could sell or lease the asset and turn it into cash.

In our next installment of this series on virtual real estate investing, Bryan Ellis will share the internet analogies to the physical concept of real estate development.

How do you clean the hull on a boat when it is out of the water? As a boat cleaner or detailer there are ways to speed up the process of boat hull cleaning. It is important to do a perfect job if you are to later detail the boat or put wax on it. You must protect yourself and you will need safety equipment. First, you’ll want some protective equipment as you’ll be using some harsh acids to remove the algae growth that accumulates on the bottom of boats. Some very strong nitrile gloves, goggles, and/or respirator are all recommended. Here are some of the best places to buy safety equipment, we have used all these companies and they are all fast, responsive and knowledgeable:

http://www.hullsafety.com/products/index.htm

http://www.micronsafety.com/page2.html

http://www.polywater.com

http://www.ahsafety.com

http://www.alimed.com

Make sure that you keep any acid from splashing up on your skin. First-aid eye kits can be purchased at: Wal*Mart, Target, ACE Hardware, K-Mart, etc. You should have a first aid kit with eye flushing fluid with you if you are going to use muratic acid or acetone. For more information on this please go to:

http://www.chargar.com/ab.htmOSHA

You’ll also want to do this in an approved area where runoff can either be reclaimed using a vacu-boom system or where it can go into an approved waste area. To do a bottom wash for a boat on a trailer or on a hoist, try to get to the boat as soon as it comes out of the water. It is against the law to allow wash waste water to enter a storm drain as chances are it leads directly back to the ocean or the lake.

A dilemma besetting many cases is the question whether to settle or not. A practical assessment of your position with the aid of a trusted lawyer will provide the answer.

It is never easy to make a decision like settling a case. Many factors come into play but a thing to be remembered is that choosing to settle is based on calculated risks and chances of winning litigation.

If you find yourself in a trial, you or your opponent may choose to offer the other party to settle the case before it reaches court. This discussion of the case is “without prejudice” meaning that you are not bound by any agreement whatsoever if you change your mind prior to receiving the money or before the court is informed of your agreement.

Choosing to settle a case may well be beneficial to you as it can save you a great deal of money and time. Not including the fact that opting to pursue the case may prove to be your own undoing. There is the risk of a prolonged trial or even loss and the cost it will entail may not be the best for you. Indeed it may sound unfair but strains on your personal relationships as well as on your business can be avoided if you choose to settle.

Sometimes, settling can be very difficult. Even if the parties agree about who was at fault in a case, the case may not settle due to a dispute over the amount of damages sustained by the plaintiff. Cases often proceed to trial on the sole issue of damages. Thus, most lawyers will work the case as if it will proceed to trial and hope that their work will enlighten the other side about the need to settle the case. If the case does not settle, that lawyer is then ultimately prepared to try a good case with the best potential for a favorable outcome.

To arrive at a final decision, it is best to enlist the aid of a lawyer who is familiar with the issues attached to making settlements. An experienced attorney can help you be familiar with the workings of settling. Plus, he can give you the most that you can get out of your settlement. The law can be very complex and having a lawyer to guide to step by step can be a very enlightening experience.
