Forget the Constitution — just do it anyway. Programs such as Welfare, Social Security, food stamps, Medicare and Medicaid are core beliefs among those that sit on the left side of the isle. Then you have radical environmentalists and animal rights activists demanding that the government control the property of private citizens and dictate what they can and cannot use it for. You have still others demanding that government declare corporations that don’t have X% of minorities as bigots. These are the true “left wingers” of the American left. You know, the socialists, communists, fascists, etc. that just LOVE big government.

At the same time you have the far “right wing” extremists, proclaiming that the government has to stop telling people what they can and cannot do with other people’s bodies growing inside of them. You have people that are “me centered” and hate government in any form or at least hate any government that is not directly controlled by them because they see it as their right to be able to do what they want when they want. These are the anarchists and the libertines which, I’ll admit, are so far to the “right” of myself and conservatives and libertarians that we welcome them having found a home somewhere other than with us. They give us conservatives and libertarians (i.e. Americans) a bad name.

And this is why the “left” in America is falling apart. Think I’m wrong? Watch the next rally against the G8 or the WTO and watch groups like Greenpeace marching right along side of the anarchists. You might even see them holding hands in-between throwing rocks and tearing down barricades.
