If you buy a vehicle like a car or a motorbike, you’re not expecting to get a custom vehicle, instead you’re shown a selection of fully-tested and engineered machines that have taken years to develop. However, websites seem to be a different affair altogether. Most businesses assume that their website will be designed and developed to their precise stipulations. This is perfectly reasonable of course, and in many business cases it’s unavoidable.

But wait - is that genuinely the best way to go about things for all cases? Ask yourself this : how can I make an e-commerce website? Look at content managed websites for example : these will sport dozens of modules, with stringent security requirements, a backoffice area so the site owner can update the content on the site. All of this, while demanding the website to be painless to use and purchase products for shoppers. Answering all those requirements is no trivial job, and if a bug or other issue happens, you have to go back to the designer to ask for fixes. Custom websites in this context have a large weight to carry.

Nonetheless, there’s another choice to this way which is far more money saving, potentially gives you a lot more facilities, and offers more security, reliability, and stability - web templates.

Individuals acknowledge nowadays that bespoke websites frequently aren’t required and that in numerous situations, it’s best to alter your business plan even ever-so slightly so they match a strong, proven website template than to take a chance with a custom-made website design to match your business plan. So why is this the case though? Because of the complexity a modern website asks for. You want a strong, well-tested codebase that runs your site, not freshly written code that hasn’t had the benefit of months and years of real-life testing. Not just that, but templates usually are updated often and these updates patched to your website, so your site is keeping up with all the ongoing technologies the ability to copy and paste fashionable widgets onto your pages.

But perhaps the greatest selling point is this however: website templates are far more money saving than tailor-made websites. Why drop £9000 on a site when you can obtain a ste with more features for only £200, as an example?

These reasons ought to make you think twice about your business plan and whether to select a web template or go for a custom-made website.

How to find entertaining books on-line

Everybody recognises Virago, the world?s biggest online bookstore, but there are a lot of different on-line bookshops, especially if you are looking for records in different languages than English. Amazon has reasonable prices but so have other online book stores and if you admit shipping tolls it can often be cheaper to buy your volumes locally.

You can equate prices on volumes at numerous web sites, personally I use bogpriser to check the better prices for books and these prices takes on shipping, so the results are comparable. The on-line bookstore deals all sorts of books, novels, fable, nonfiction, and books on psychological science and how to make a internet site.

One field which interests me is depression and anxiousness and how to deal with depressive disorder. I suffer from depressive disorder and have to take pills every day to be fit to live a regular life. Antidepressants have transformed my life and depression research is something I relish reading about.

My experiences in coping with depression have resulted in a website where I describe my findings in coping with depression and the world of antidepressants. The site and my authorship is also a positive therapy and because I have a cheap webhost, there are very few expenses in the project.

Books on clinical depression and how to deal with depressive disorder, books on building web sites and good novels for the long dark winter evenings are found on the net. In on-line bookstores it is smooth to compare costs, accessibility and different components which can help in the buy.

Operating PHP or Word Press site calls for a MySQL database and of course a PHP5 facility.

Uptime is critical, 99.99 % uptime is a must, no host will assure you 100 % uptime. You will also claim to consider the servicing and backup from your ISP to properly run your website as smooth as possible, which is also necessary for Google optimisation and SEO in general.

Word Press is advocated for a inexpensive and resilient net result and hosting your site on a UNIX based server working Apache and MySQL is an sanctioned web hosting answer which is simple to keep up without programming skills and cognition and Word Press is also easy to optimise for search engines like Google and Bing.

Your web host is the cornerstone of your WWW presence and it is very important to choose the proper web host from the set out. Choosing the best domain and establishing the right web registration are the initial things to think over when you are establishing a web site. All the same, this isn’t an uncomplicated process. For whenever you strive to discover the best provider you will probably detect that researching the company via customer evaluation reports may prove to be the best step.

Reviews of domain hosting are unquestionably useful but how will you determine what exactly it is you are actually looking for? Don’t make any decisions before you decide the features that are most important to your business. Employing the same provider for web site hosting and registration of your domain name is a popular solution. Service is something that may affect your business even a long time after registration.

It’s a shrewd policy not to depend on a review published on the hosting provider’s web site. In order to determine the best suited web registration for your web site, you must find an impartial assessment. Make time to study several domain hosting review sites bearing in mind what each customer has to offer. Precisely what seem to be the most prevalent complaints, if there are any? What do current clients believe regarding the company? Is the overall feedback good or bad?

With any provider, you will discover both positive and negative feedback. It’s generally best to take a look at all the customer feedback with an open mind and take everything into consideration. Naturally, the significance of cost can not be overlooked, but it’s crucial to get value for money. Here are some questions to mull over when choosing which provider to go with.

Does the company you are researching boast round the clock customer support with a free number, and can you deduce from the feedback if they have got a quick turnaround time? What network uptime are they guaranteeing? Will it be >98%? Exactly how much bandwidth would your account level be good for? You can negotiate a bundle including unlimited hosting and bandwidth, and at times you might be entitled to other rewards like software and even vouchers for Google AdWords.

What kind of payment options are offered? Are payments automatic, or could you pay monthly? In the event of a server breakdown, what will they do?

Only you are able to pick the most suitable hosting for the requirements of your web site, all the same, before you make that decision, make sure you have determined all available alternatives. Reading multiple domain hosting reviews gives you the chance to save lots of time and effort later.

Spam is a real problem today. Forged email is a big part of the spam problem. Have you ever received a spam email from yourself? How many times have you received an email you know to be spam from someone only to find out it came from an invalid email address? When you try to block the email by choosing block sender, the spammer simply changes the email address to another variation and gets through the block. Until recently, there wasn’t much you could do about it. Now there is.

What is Sender Policy Framework (SPF)?

SPF makes it easy for a domain, whether it’s an ISP, a business, or a school to say that they only send mail from certain machines. If any other machine is claiming to send mail, they are lying. SPF aims to prevent spammers from ruining other people’s reputation. When your machine receives an email from another server that has implemented SPF, your machine can easily tell if the incoming email really comes from the server it says it belongs to. More information about SPF can be found at http://spf.pobox.com/

By implementing SPF in your favorite application or on your server, you can be sure that a spammer will never be able to impersonate you when spamming others. Most well known domains and email applications have already implemented SPF on their servers and products. Some examples of vendors that are already implementing SPF into their products include Sophos, Symantec, Declude Junkmail, Brightmail, IronPort, Ciphertrust, MailArmory, MailFrontier, Roaring Penguin Software, Communigate Pro, and others.

Ready to fight email forgery? Install applications that support SPF today and get protected from email forgery!

Google has taken the cyber world literary by storm again with its new product called Google Page Creator. Google Page Creator is a very simple but effective tool that will allow virtually everyone to have their own website at free of charge and without having any technical knowledge. You can create your website in your browser without the help of any other software. The initial demand has been so high that Google was forced to stop issuing new accounts.

Signing up

When I tried to sign up in Google Page Creator, due to very high demand Google had stopped providing new accounts. Of course, I felt discouraged because I always like to see Google as the never ending source of information for everyone. Google asked me to submit my email address so that I remain in the queue for Google Page Creator. However, after 5 minutes I again tried and this time to my sheer delight I got the account but again felt disappointed that Google Page Creator does not support my browser (Opera). So, I entered Google Page Creator with Internet Explorer and this time it opened very well.

Things to note
:
* http://pages.google.com is the homepage of Google Page Creator

* A Gmail account is a must if you want to get Page Creator

* Explorer 6.0 or Firefox 1.0, or higher, with JavaScript and cookies enabled- Then you can work with Page Creator.By signing up with Page Creator I got a sub domain from Google (http://ahmedrazib.googlepages.com/) with a capacity of 100 Megabyte. For me it is so interesting to note that for signing up I did not have to fill up any form. Just my Gmail was enough. Even I did not have to spend anytime for selecting a url for my sub domain. I did not have to do any email verification. I am sure this process will attract many users in Net.

Help section of Google Page Creator

Before doing anything, I visited the help section. I spent 10-15 minutes to read the topics and I was totally satisfied to see that the topics were written in very easy and non Technical English. It provided the necessary information about Google Page Creator. Then I visited Google Page Creator Help Center . It was written in a very easy manner too. The troubleshooting tips are useful too for a new user.

My first page in Google Page Creator

When I saw my home page Google Page Creator I felt like working an Microsoft Word and MS Frontpage. There are places where I should just click and then type something- It is just as easy as that. No download, no support from any other software. Just type some words and hit the publish button- that’s it. If you are not satisfied with the Layout then you can change it within a minute. There are 4 kinds of layouts and all you need is to just click on one of them. The same goes for the Look too. If you are not satisfied with the Look of your webpage then there are 41 Looks to select. I liked some of them while the others did not appear to be very impressive to me.

My first Picture Google Page Creator

There is an option for uploading a picture. You can upload by two ways: you can select an image from your PC’s hard drive or you can give a url of any picture from Internet. Both of them worked pretty fast.

Adding a page at Google Page Creator

After I finished my home page I wanted to add a new page titled About Me. The process is almost same like working on the first page. After I finished creating the page I really felt that Google has been able to overcome the biggest challenge of allowing everyone to have own website at free of charge.

Will my page be found in Google Search

Yes, it will be because Google has informed in its website that within a few hours of my website being created by Google Page Creator it will crawl and add to its search. When something gets indexed in Google, other search engines wont waste time to index it too.

What next for Google Page Creator and Google?

Google Page Creator is surely one of the biggest revolutions in ICT sector in recent times. Google Page Creator is a giant step in overcoming the problem of ordinary users to make an online presence without any technical know how. By it Google entered into the web hosting industry and the best thing with Google Page Creator is that any website created here is supposed to be blessed with unlimited amount of bandwidth.

Difference between Blogspot and Google Page Creator

Google’s Blogspot is very popular among everyone and there are thousands of blogs hosted in Blogspot. In Blogspot, a person needs some basic ideas about webpage design and HTML but in Google Page Creator anyone with the ability to browse Internet through Internet Explorer and Firefox will be able to create their own website.

No ads in Google Page Creator

I am not sure about it yet but I did not see any ads of any company including Google after uploading my website. If this continues, then Google will dominate the market of free websites. I have seen many of my students and friends to get annoyed from Tripod and Geocities about advertisements and gradually losing interest about free web hosting altogether.
I am sure that Google Page Creator is going to influence the writing industry a lot in the coming days.

I am a Reseacrher and Freelance journalist here in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Right now, I am writing my M Phil thesis on ‘Role of English Language in Information Technology Sector of Bangladesh. A website is never finished. There will always be new links to add, text to change, updates etc

Keep Your Web Site Content Fresh

Make sure that your content is up to date. A web site that states it’s deadline for an offer expires in 2004, for example, is a sure sign that this site is now unattended. If you don’t have any dates in your content, you could add a small note on one side, stating ‘This Site Updated 4th October, 2005′. Use this format, not numbers and slashes. 4/10/05 in the US means 10th April. In Australia, it means 4th Oct. Remember your site is world-wide and needs to accommodate everyone.

RSS feeds, news headlines, new, dated articles, competitions or offers with future expiry dates, are all ways to make sure your visitors can see your site is up to date.

Check for Broken Links
Visitors will be turned off your site very quickly if links on your site produce error messages.

The web is changing very fast, and you cannot be responsible for websites that you have listed on your site. But you are responsible for making sure your links all work, by deleting/correcting any that don’t. There are numerous tools available online that will check a web site for broken links, very quickly and easily.

Check to Ensure Images Are Displayed Properly
Use Alt Tags behind your images, in case the picture doesn’t load correctly. The Alt tag will display and the user still knows what the picture is about.

Add or Remove Components
If you have embarked on a program to improve your search engine optimization, you will need to add new links.
Launching a new product will perhaps necessitate a new page, and changes to your shopping cart.
You may find a new affiliate product you wish to promote, or add flash to your site.
A marketing sales letter may need to be revised.

Changing The Appearance
You may want to change colours, or other aspects of your site.

Check That Your Site Remains Online
This can be monitored 24hrs a day for you by website monitoring companies. They can issue a report with how much downtime your site has experienced in the last week. The only thing you can do if the downtime is greater than 1 or 2% (ie its uptime is 98 - 99%) is to contact your web host to find out why. If they cannot rectify the problem, consider changing your web host.

Use Your Statistics
A lot of information can be recorded about your website visitors, to help with your marketing and advertising. These statistics can show their country, exactly which pages they visited, which keywords they used to get there and more.

Back Up Your Site
Making a back-up copy of your website is a good idea. You could also copy and paste the content, with links, into a document and store that. If something goes wrong, you can rebuild your site fairly quickly.

Written by Margo Courtney, author of the “How To Build Web Sites” tutorial. It explains in plain english, and step by step, how to create, host and market web sites. The tutorial can be viewed at http://www.how-to-build-web-sites.com and its aim is web page success.
She also designs and builds web sites, and offers other web site services.

There are millions and millions of websites on the Internet. You NEED to be different in some way from all of them! If you could get a visitor to your website, that means nothing. Only returning visitors must be counted. When they return the second time, “branding” starts to occur. Huge companies advertise not because they want to provide you with information about their product. They do that because they’re trying to “brand” its name and image. Actually, it is the brand you are paying the money for when you buy something from “Adidas”, “Nike” or “Coca-cola”. People will actually be willing to pay for the brand they know, so make it as bright and memorable as possible. However, it is useful to remember that too complex logo will definitely slip out of peoples’ minds.

Have you seen small companies with the better products then the leaders in their industry and with the lower prices? When you actually pay the money to a big company for some service or product, be sure that 30% or even more from the price of the product will be the “branding” expenses. But why would you waste 30% on company branding? The thing is that branded companies make people feel safer, especially when they purchase through internet. Think for yourself - when you would feel safer if you give your credit card number to an unknown company but with the attractive prices or to a company everyone knows and trusts, even if their price is a bit more expensive? The answer is simple, right? If you want to be a recognizable company, be ready to spend even more than 30% when you start your website.

“Branding” plays the same role in online business as in the regular one. If people see your banners, links, adds, etc. all over the related websites, they begin to recognize your company. First, they do that unconsciously, than after running into your website several times they will recognize your logo, website, etc.

Let’s think how we can brand our website online.

1) Before you start branding I would recommend studying the methods your competitors used. That may be very useful as you may borrow some of their techniques.

2) Think of a good company name, logo, website domain name and company slogan (e.g. company name: Metamorphosis Design, domain: http://www.metamorphozis.com)

3) Advertisement is the key to success in online branding. Links, text ads, graphic banners and any other means you can think of. Your logo, company name or business slogan should be everywhere on the business related websites.

4) Web design companies very often offer free redesign services and discounts on web design for the companies that provide a link back to their website on their pages. That is another way of branding.

5) Offer affiliate percentage from sales if they agree to place a banner or a link to your website. (You should have affiliate program up and running in this case)

There are many other ways to brand your company. Different companies use different methods and techniques. When you start your own business you will have to study them and select which one is better for your needs and your pocket. If you would be able to brand your company, it may bring you millions and millions of dollars.

Key words are what people give a search engine to find what
they are looking for on the web. You can define your key words
before you even start your website.

Say there are a lot of competing web pages mentioning your
product - how should a search engine put these pages in order of
relevance to a search?

Say some pages contained the word once, and some contained the
word ten times, and some contained the word between two and nine
times.

If all other factors (e.g. number of links from other web pages)
were equal, search engines would list those pages containing the
word ten times first, followed by those with the word
nine times, then eight times, etc., and then those pages
containing the word only once listed last.

Let’s build up a list of search words for one product. Take
tents for an example.

What words describe it?

Here are four words - tent, marquee, marquise, bivouac.

What are its uses?

Camping equipment, holidays, vacations, parties, functions,
weddings.

What material is it made from?

Canvas, etc.

What is your brand name?

People may have heard of your brand and may look for it by name.
Let’s say it’s brand name is “Dingo.”

Where is it available?

Some products you may sell worldwide, but possible delivery
costs could be limiting. People may search for the product in
their own area first. In that case your state, your nearest
city, and your suburb are required key words. Say your area is
Penrith. Your customers may search for Penrith, Sydney, NSW or
Australia, particularly if they live outside the city or suburb.

Key Words so far are 24:

Tent, tents, marquee, marquees, marquise, bivouac, camping
equipment, holiday, holidays, vacation, vacations, party,
parties, function, functions, wedding, weddings, canvas, Dingo,
Penrith, Sydney, NSW, Australia. (Include singular and plural,
where possible.)

Where should these appear on your web page?

Title tag

This is the most important tag which displays at the very top of
your browser. Use every key word here. But words here need to be
seen also on the web page.

Keywords tag

This is now largely ignored by search engines.

Description tag

Same as above.

Heading tags

Instead of “Welcome to Dingo Inc.” say “Dingo Tents and Marquees”

Links to inside pages

Instead of “Products” say “Tents” and “Marquees”

Instead of “About Us” say “About Dingo Tents”

Body text

This is where you can be creative. Mix the key words into
phrases and sentences. See how many ways there are to describe
the products, their use, and where they are.

Examples of Key Words embedded in text:

Pole tents, frame tents, canvas tents, vinyl tents, play tents,
event tents, party tents, wedding tents, camping tents, stall
tents, large tents, small tents, tent accessories are all at
Dingo Tents. Holiday under canvas with a Dingo tent or marquee.
Dingo has camping equipment for your next vacation. Dingo tents
and marquees are in all sizes. See inside for tent sizes. A
large Dingo marquee ensures nothing will dampen your wedding,
party, or outside function. Dingo tents and marquees are near
you if you live in Penrith or Sydney, NSW Australia. Dingo tents
can be delivered anywhere in NSW, Australia.

See how in just the hundred words above it’s possible to mention
tent(s) twenty times. Provided the key words are embedded in a
lot of text, and not repetitive, like “tents, tents, tents,”
they will count for you. When the text of the whole page with
contact details, etc., is considered the proportion of key words
to total words will be lower and acceptable. The font can be
small but is not allowed to be invisible. Search engines have
formulas for discerning where text is the same color as its
background.

Search for competing websites and see how many key words they
have fitted into their home page. Then try for more key words on
your page.

Do all this before you start your own website. We are often
asked to redesign someone else’s website, after they realize
their work of art is not appreciated by search engines. Start
out to be friendly to search engines.
